We have in our previous posts covered two of the main economic benefits of investing in a solar power array on your home or business; small-scale technology certificates (STCs) and Feed-in-Tariffs.
However, both of these Federal government schemes accrue when you have established an existing solar array, and are either generating enough power trade in STCs, or are receiving discounts from your energy company for excess electricity.
Another option we have previously covered is the instant asset tax-write off for business investments into new infrastructure such as a solar system. See our post on the tax benefits of solar here.
However, State governments are currently offering numerous rebates and grants to get your solar system up and running. Many of the rebates are based on postcode, so read on below to see if you’re eligible.
NSW
Smart Distributed Batteries (SDB) project
The SDB project, run through SolarHub in conjunction with the NSW Government, is incentivising the use of batteries in order to facilitate a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). Whilst it sounds futuristic, the VPP will allow the grid to balance local energy needs when there are blackouts and transmission failures.
If you are located in the NSW South Coast or close to the ACT, you could be eligible to receive a point-of-sale discount on a new battery system. You can learn more here.
Solar PV and battery storage assistance
If you live in the NSW Hunter Region, you could be eligible for an interest-free loan of up to $14,000 to install a solar PV and battery storage system.
If you live in your own home, are connected to the grid and are seeking to take the next step into a renewable energy future, see this link for more information.
Free solar PV for low income households
This grant is targeted at those with senior concession card holders who are looking to invest in solar for the first time, and apply if you live in Central Coast, North Coast, Sydney (South), Illawarra, Shoalhaven, and the South Coast.
